Fed: Economists warn of trade blowout

CANBERRA, Jan 17 AAP - Australia was headed for a record blowout in the trade balance,economists said today, following the release of the latest imports figures.
The warning came as the Aussie dollar reached two-and-a-half year highs, breaking throughthe 59 US cent barrier late today.
The surge, which has seen the Aussie put on more than two US cents since the startof 2003, makes Australian goods more expensive for overseas buyers and will put furtherpressure on the trade balance.
